...I'm really starting to think that this cow has a divine hand placed on her life. The cow I'm referring to is the one I talked about in the post a couple of days ago. Well, turns out this poor cow ate some toxic grass, apparently this happens when grass freezes then puts on new grass. Sometimes it can cause toxemia in cows. So, the other day when I found her with her legs in the air, she wasn't in labor, she was toxic.
So, my husband and a fellow cattleman friend of his gave this old gal some medication to induce her labor. Yes, that's right, induce her labor. I jokingly asked the guy who was helping my husband if he would be performing a C-section, and he said, "I sure hope we don't have to." He was serious. I almost died. I should have stopped working a long time ago, I sure did miss alot around here while I was at work! COW C-SECTIONS?! I thought I'd heard it all when he said this. I had not. Read on.
The cow actually got up and walked around a bit yesterday and seemed to be doing better, but then last night she got down again, in the creek, and something had to be done. So, this morning my husband pulled the calf. Thanks be to God no C-section required!(my husband is bad bad bad at giving shots to cows, I can not EVEN imagine him performing or having any part in a c-section) This afternoon when I got home, the cow was still in the creek and her calf was laying on the bank beside her. I called my husband and told him we either needed to get this cow out of the creek or I was going to shoot her myself because she was really suffering here!
My husband tends to believe me when I tell him I am going to do something like that, (that is a whole other post!) so he came home to see what he could do. He and a friend of his wrapped a strap around this cow, the other end to the tractor, and after about an hour, finally had the cow out of the creek! Yea!
Well, she was pitiful, as anyone who had been drug by a pull strap and tractor after giving birth would be, and they decided she needed some medication and something called a hip hugger. So, they called another friend who was going to bring them a hip hugger, and my dear husband, who is horrible at giving cow shots, proceeded to give the old girl 2 shots. After the hip hugger friend got there, they decided she needed some medication we did not have and since the hip hugger friend's family owns the local feed & seed store, he ran up there to get it.
HERE IS THE HOLY PART: When the friend gets to the family feed store he goes in to discover it is filled with smoke. The store is on fire!! So he calls the fire department, and in the end, the store is saved. Except for some serious smoke damage, that is! So, if it weren't for good ole Cow #3 the Feed & Seed store would probably have burned to the ground. How about that for ironic? I really feel that I should give Cow #3 a fitting name, she is after all, a hero! Got any ideas? Leave em' in my comments section, and I'll let you know the name we decide! (Again, cause I KNOW you will be sitting by your computers awaiting the results!)
***Also, I want to give a big shout out to all my closet male blog readers.(not THAT closet!) I know you're out there because I had at least 10 people ask me about my spreader truck post while I was up at the feed store fire tonight! I actually asked one of the owners if we could bring that stupid truck up and park it in the store and maybe get some insurance money out of it since my cow saved their store......he didn't go for it!*******
Do keep this family who owns the store in your thoughts and prayers because, while they didn't loose the whole store, there was ALOT of smoke! And there will be lots of clean up and insurance claims involved, I'm sure! And it is their family's business!

I found your blog through Rebecca's. I think you should call your cow, Providence. After all, if it were not for the providence of God, the store would be gone.
Actually, it was Elizabeth's blog. Sorry. Forgot whose I was on.
Oh my goodness that poor girl. But she ends up saving the day.
Umm..
"Sanctified Sally"
How is it you always have these interesting stories?? lol
I hope they get their business all cleaned and back to normal soon.
Okay, I'm thinking you should name your cow 'Endor'. Remember the witch of Endor that Saul visited to call up the spirit of Samuel? I'm convinced there is something really 'other worldly' going on with this cow..:))
WOW, girl you make life on the farm sound like quite the adventure. I do feel so sorry for that cow! But thankful for the store being saved! Do you mind telling me what part of the country you are in? I may need to go see this cow next year as we travel through the US!
poor cow. She'll surely have postpartum depression after all that! I think you should call her Flame, short for Flaming Beauty.
I'm trying to think of a name...but I did think 'Sanctified Sally' was cute! Let me think...I'll be back...
...and what a story! You CERTAINLY do not lead a dull life! :-)
Oh, my -- poor cow...I didn't know that c-sections can be performed on cows--now I do...
A name for cow that saved a Feed & Seed store. How about: Bella?
I sure will lift up your friends.
How about the name Smokey for your wonder cow? :-)
