On today, this Easter Sunday, my thoughts have drifted toward the alabaster jar. When the immoral woman came in with her alabaster jar filled with expensive perfume, and broke it open and then she knelt behind Jesus at his feet, weeping. Her tears fell on his feet, and she wiped them off with her hair. Then she kept kissing his feet and putting perfume on them.
Some of those who sat around the table were highly upset with this woman. They suggested she could have sold the perfume and gave the money to the poor. Jesus told them to leave her alone, and asked them why they criticized her.
Then Jesus turned to the woman and said to Simon, “Look at this woman kneeling here. When I entered your home, you didn’t offer me water to wash the dust from my feet, but she has washed them with her tears and wiped them with her hair. You didn’t greet me with a kiss, but from the time I first came in, she has not stopped kissing my feet. You neglected the courtesy of olive oil to anoint my head, but she has anointed my feet with rare perfume.
As I read this I wonder, how often do we save what's in our Alabaster jar, and not break it open and fall at the feet of Jesus? This woman was said to be immoral, yet she had seen His miracles and knew the greatness of this man! We who claim to be Christians often sit on what's in our jar, and not open it to bless our Lord and Savior!
Jesus had not died upon the cross at this point. He had not risen from the dead. We who live in today's time have the privilege to read of all these events, and have them laid out before us, yet we choose to keep the contents of our Alabaster Jar hidden away. I wonder if Jesus' wounds from the crucifixion hurt Him more then.................or now?

Happy Easter!
Great blog!
We just had an awesome sermon this morning on the very same subject. Your blog was a great addition to it.
Wow...that is a great post and a great song. I hadn't heard it before and it was very powerful with the scenes from the movie. Very humbling on both counts...thanks.
I've often wondered if Jesus still smelled of the perfume while He was on the cross...Makes a nice thought anyway..:))
This is one of my favorite scenes in Scripture..thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!!
Great blog for Easter!
