Thankful Thursday.......

This has been a wild week for us around here. We are finishing up the hay, getting ready for a 1st birthday, working, and prepping for Bible School next week. Whew! BUT! in the midst of all this craziness (yes, I know there is always craziness around here!) there is much to be thankful for!

I am thankful for my healthy family.

I am thankful that my son has made it through his first year of life very happy, healthy, and mostly injury free. (I know the injury part will change as he walks more and more!)

I am thankful for THE most incredible year of my life. Can it possibly get any better than this?

I am thankful for a very organized Bible School Director. If the director isn't with it, it can be a disaster...I've seen it happen!

I am so thankful that I get to teach the beloved 4 year old class this year! Due to work I haven't been able to help with Bible school in several years, and the 4 yr olds were the SS class I taught for several years! I'm soooo excited!! (check back with me on Friday of next week, see if I'm STILL excited!)

I have much more, but a certain wee one is tugging at my PJs for my attention....

From the beach......

...no, not me. I'm still on the mountain! But from the beach, from my graduates...I have received multiple txt messages from each!

I must admit, they completely surprised me! I didn't expect to hear from a one of them!

In Memory on this Memorial Day....

This article was published in the Tuscaloosa News

Jeremy F was 3 years old when his baby brother was born. Jeremy told his mother he wanted to name the baby Nicholas. “He liked the TV show 'Eight Is Enough’ and got the name Nicholas from the boy on that show," said Patsy F, Jeremy’s mother. The boys grew up in the same small town in the northeast corner of the state that their father, Bobby F, grew up in.

“We’re a close-knit community," said Darnell G , a friend of the family who knew Jeremy all of his life and was one of his high school teachers. “Jeremy was buddies with my son and daughter. He was a good buddy to everyone he knew. He was raised with my children. They basically grew up together."

When her 17-year-old daughter, Lori, was killed by a drunken driver the year Jeremy was a senior in High School, Jeremy helped Mrs G get through it. “I nearly lost my mind," she said. “Jeremy gave me a lot of comfort during that time. He was a loving child."

She said Jeremy was also a good student, and played football for the Eagles. “He played hard in the sports he played. He was competitive and was dedicated to his team. He thought he was always supposed to win," Mrs G said. “He hated to lose at anything." And that made him a good soldier, she said. Jeremy joined the National Guard after graduating from high school in 1995.

About a year later, he went into the Army. “He always wanted to be in the military," Patsy F said. “He knew for a long time he wanted to be in the Army." He was stationed in Korea when terrorists attacked the United States on Sept. 11, 2001. “I’m not sure when he left for the Philippines, because it was a secret mission," Mrs F said. “But he let me know in January that he was there training troops as part of Operation Enduring Freedom."
Bobby F heard on the radio on Feb. 22, 2002, that a Special Operations Chinook helicopter had crashed in the Philippines. The family knew it was the same kind of helicopter their son flew on as crew chief. “We discussed it and were afraid he was on it," Patsy F said. “We both had a fear. But when we didn’t hear anything by the next morning, we went on to work. We thought maybe not.

“But as soon as I was told I had visitors in the lobby, I knew." All eight Nightstalkers, the name adopted by members of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Training Company, aboard the aircraft were killed when it exploded.

Mrs G said the whole town was devastated to lose one of its children. And it was particularly hard on the family, because Jeremy’s body was never found. Sgt. Jeremy F was 25. “They found everybody else but him," Mrs G said. “He was in the middle of the aircraft, using the radio in the maneuver they were doing, when it broke apart and exploded. We had hope for so long that he’d be found somewhere, but they found nothing," she said.
Knowing how hard it is to deal with the loss of a child, she said she at least had a body to bury when her daughter was killed. She had some closure. “Patsy didn’t. You know Patsy will look for him every day of her life. I will, too," Mrs G said. “It’s hard for me to take, and I was just a friend and teacher."

She said before her daughter was killed, Lori and Jeremy hung out together with a group of friends and worked together at a potato shed where they would bring in potatoes out of the field, grate and sack them. “Then she’d cook for them," Mrs G said of her daughter. “The whole gang would go over to Pasty F's house at lunchtime, and she’d cook potatoes."
Patsy F said her son was mischievous and loved to have fun. “He was a big cut-up," she said. Mrs G, who stayed in touch with Jeremy after he went overseas, said he was always pulling jokes and especially got a kick out of calling her “old woman." “He always had something planned. You didn’t know what he was going to pull on you, say to you, do to you," she said. “But he was a really good kid.

“I’ll always remember that little smirk on his face, that mischievous grin." The family's church, New Home Baptist Church, built a park in honor of Jeremy with a memorial stone in the pavilion. The park was dedicated on Nov. 10, 2002. “He died for a cause he believed in, defense of the United States of America," Mrs G said.

What Mrs G didn't tell you was that Jeremy had a special seat in her class....right by her desk! He tormented that poor woman and at times I thought she just might kill him herself! He used to have this word that he said to just tear her nerves up...I won't say the word online, but she made him go over an lick her chalkboard every time he said it...as punishment! Once while he was at the board, she had a visitor come in to her classroom and didn't pay much attention to Jeremy until everyone started laughing.....Not only did he lick the chalkboard,...he licked the actual word she hated on the chalkboard!

I had athletic training with him everyday for 3 years and he was always my spotter. He kept us all laughing and I always thought he just might get me laughing so hard I'd drop the weights on myself,...but he saved me everytime!

Rest in peace, my friend.......You are missed!

Pomp & Circumstance a plenty!

As I mentioned, last night was graduation at the local high school. These kids are just the greatest ever! I am continually amazed at the gratitude they show. Every single one of them thanked us for coming to watch them! How cool is that? I mean, you'd think they'd just grab the card & cash and bolt! Not these grads! Congratulations to you all! Here are a few photos from last night:

Thankful Thursday....

I have so much to be thankful for! Here are just a few that randomly come to my mind as I type....(as if I ever have a non-random thought, right??)

Tonight is graduation at the local high school, and there are some graduates in this class that I am particularly close to. (In fact, one of them has worked with us all week to get in our hay.) I am so very thankful for the opportunity to know these young adults. They are such wonderful additions to our life, and to this community, and to our church. I wish them all the best as they begin this new chapter in their lives.

I am thankful today that I have a dentist appointment. This will allow me to get my teeth cleaned instead of working in the hay field all day! I will only have to work the second half of the day which ends early due to graduation! Yea!

I am thankful that my son is surrounded by people who love him and are praying for him...."it takes a village to raise a child"....I believe this saying is true!

I am thankful that I live in a small town. I love that when I go to the grocery store or the dollar store (those are about all we have) that I know most people there, and they talk to my son, and can tell me who he looks like, or acts like. Or if I have to run to the restroom, there are always people to watch him. Thanks Tonya & Cindy B!

On this Memorial Day weekend, I am thankful for all who serve and have served. I often think of my friend, Jeremy. But I do especially on Memorial Day. He was killed in 2002 in a helicopter crash during a training mission in the Philippines. (training for the Attack on Terror war that continues today) They found 8 of the 10 who were killed. They did not find my friend's body. I had many dreams that they found him alive,...I can't imagine how many of these his mom has had.... Thank you, Jeremy, for your service to our country,...but thank you most of all for the friendship,..the laughs, which were always plentiful in your presence. I know you rest with God.

Tackle It Tuesday.....

...or shall I say, get tackled by Tuesday?

I live on a farm, most of you know that. But do you know what that means in late May? That means HAY! Yes, that's right....the hay days of summer are officially here! From daylight til dark....from can to can't....hay, hay, hay.

My husband takes off the last 3 weeks of May from his public job to get everything ready and then cut, rake, tetter, & bale hay. I have no idea how many acres of hay we actually have to do, but I know it's alot! And my part officially begins today. I will be either raking the hay, or driving the accumulator, which pulls the bales into groups of 8 to be loaded onto the trailers, or sometimes I get to drive the truck pulling the trailers ( I did run over one of our helpers feet last year, so this may not be a possibility this year...we'll see!)

At any rate, I'll be tackling it in the hay field today......Happy Hay Days to all!
If you would like to participate in Tackle it Tuesday, head on over to 5 minutes for mom!

WARNING: Golfballs will bounce on trampolines.....

...did you know that? Take my word for it! They do!

My son and I were bouncing "gently" on the trampoline that we have inherited (long story about which my husband tells me I have no comment) and he had found this stray golf ball in our yard.

Myself, nor my husband play golf so I have no idea where the ball came from. Although, I do have two labs, one of which has been known to drag up some strange things (remember my neighbors?) She has drug up mops, shoes, clothes off my neighbors line, and once even a case of beer.....I bet one of my neighbors wondered where their stash went! (Does my dog not fit perfectly into our neighborhood??)

...anyway, back to the golf ball. So, I thought it would be fun to roll the golf ball back and forth with my son while we were on the trampoline since he loves balls. Obviously, I didn't think this through completely. Being that trampolines are bouncy & golf balls are bouncy this was bound to be a bad combination!

So, now I have a sore mouth and teeth (yes, teeth can be sore) to go along with my sore eyes and nose that I got last week when he whacked me in the face with his metal tractor (if you have saw me and wondered what is going on with my eye, now you know!) and to also go along with the sore leg I got from hitting the corner of the table when my child decided to dive off the couch for the phone saying hewo (hello) all the way to the floor!

Battlescared am I tonight! But at least I don't have a brush stuck in my hair like this!

I know that I am in for big trouble because.......

....in order to keep my sweet 3 month old nephew safe while he was at our house, I had to build him a fort. While he slept, I put him in the infant seat, within the playpen. My darling sweet baby who in the past week has turned into a wild maniac toddler stood on the outside of the playpen shaking it like a gorilla trapped in a cage. The noises he was making were similar as well! Itty bitty may never recover from his stay at our house!

.....I have given birth to a child who at 11 months looks like Jimmy Buffett singing Margaritaville.

...when I catch him with the fridge door open and he is standing inside of it. I speak his name in my (you are in serious trouble mister voice) but of course with camera on ready!, and he POSES!

...also, last night his dad was on one couch and I was on the other, he was watching his dad and listening intently as he snored. LOUD! He came bumbling over to me and I pretended to be asleep and snoring too. Let me tell you, he started pretending he was snoring too!.....it sounded like a growl, but it was definately a pretend snore! When I laughed, and boy did I laugh, he giggled and kept doing it!

....oh yeah, I'm in for it!

Thankful Thursday......

I have so many things to be thankful for. Yesterday I followed my husband and son as we moved one of the tractors from one field to another location. I drove the truck, they drove the tractor (don't freak out, it has a cab...and my husband is the slowest driver in the history of the universe!) in front of me, and I could see my husband's back, with his hat on (which I'm sure was a John Deere hat) and just over my husbands arm I could see my son's head, he had his John Deere hat on too. And I just about cried my eyes out! That was the sweetest sight. Every few seconds my husband would look down at my son, so I knew he was talking to him. I couldn't help but wonder what he said. Tonight as he washed his tractor (yes, he washes it, and WAXES it..and armour all's it), little man was sitting in his wagon nearby and his daddy told him that one day this would be his job, so I'm sure he was telling him about the farm that I hope my son one day loves as much as his Dad does.

I'm thankful that I live in a place where you can drive your tractor on the road and the people who drive around you wave as they go by! (at least MOST of them do! Others don't use ALL their fingers when they wave at you!)

I'm thankful that my husband does not often have to drive in a place where you MUST drive faster (ie: Atlanta...Oh dear Lord, the horror of riding with him there!) Because he drives tractor speed at all times, and if you pass a tractor dealership.......well, let's just say I've learned to grab the wheel if that should be the case!

I'm thankful that my husband lusts after tractors, not women.

I'm thankful to know that as you read this, I'll know that there will be several prayers going up for me today. I am going to be babysitting my 3 month old nephew. Please pray that my 11 1/2 month old maniac does not attack him, hit him, scratch him, pull him in to the floor, or any of the other horrors I have imagined since being asked to babysit by my sister. And, please pray for her too, 'cause I'm sure she has the same concerns! Especially after I told her about his attack on the sweet little girl (1 week younger than he is) in the nursery at church on Sunday!

Did I see what I think I saw?!...........

....Okay, so I have been asked so many times by my blog lurkers to tell the story about the neighbor who stands in his yard with no clothes on. So, here goes!

A few years ago I was mowing our yard, which at that time we lived very close to the road. (since that time we have built a house and can barely see the road from our house...a truly wonderful development!) Also at that time, my brother in law lived across the driveway from us but was actually in Florida going to school and he wasn't home much, so we got stuck, I mean, we lovingly mowed his yard for him.

Anyway, I had finished up with our side of the yard and started on my brother in law's side when I noticed my neighbor standing out in his yard. I didn't really pay that much attention to him, but I did notice that he had on navy blue work pants and a shirt. I know for a fact that I noticed this, because after making a few rounds, I realized that something was missing. The navy blue work shirt and pants....and everything else that goes under them!

Now, this neighbor lives kind of up the hill from where I was at the time, maybe 100-150 yards away, and I don't have the best vision in the world, so I thought maybe I was seeing things. I didn't have to turn my head to look when I made my turn and went up the yard, so I glanced that way a few times but I still just could not believe my eyes!

So, I circled around and went back to my house and stopped at the back door, the neighbor couldn't see my back door from where he was, left the mower running and went in for my binoculars. You see, I am not some sicko, but I just had to know if I was hallucinating or not (keep in mind my Mom....she tends to see things that aren't there)

I hung my trusty binoculars around my neck and continued mowing until I got to where I could see him again. He was still there. So, I put them to my eyes and low and behold he was as naked as a jaybird, and I'll let you guess just what he was standing there doing.

BUT! When that freako saw my binoculars, he turned his naked white rear end around and ran for the garage! I felt sure I would never have to worry about him doing it again, because when he did that I just KNOW he & everyone else in the neighborhood could hear me laugh! I called to tell my husband about it, and of course, he thought I was nuts!

But, one day I came home from work to see the freako out in his yard in his birthday suit again and when I pulled up in my driveway to find my husband outside working on his tractor, I made sure to point out to him that he should check out the neighbor. I thought my husband would faint right then & there. He didn't just put on his little show for me,...he did for my husband too!

Since that time, I have heard of several times this man has shown himself to people in public. He is married and has 2 grown children. His wife evidently chooses to keep her head in the sand or she is THE most naive human on the planet! I mean, he's in the FRONT yard for crying out loud!

I tried to get my husband to sneak up a tree with a paintball gun one day while I mowed the yard but he wouldn't do it and he wouldn't let me do it either. Luckily, we can no longer see his house from our yard, and I don't EVEN glance in that direction when I leave my driveway!

FYI.....We live on a road that is 1 mile long. It makes a big circle around to a main highway. In this one mile stretch we have the naked freako, 2 registered s*e*x offenders, a veteran who has flashbacks and wanders the neighborhood, and the veterans brother in law who gets drunk and threatens to shoot the veteran on a regular basis, and the town drunk. And all of this developed AFTER we moved here. Now you see why I carry a gun? ..........(there are also several very nice people on this road.....I would advise them to carry a gun as well) Thankfully, the daughter of one of our local sheriff's deputies just moved into our neighborhood, so I'm hoping for better patrolling of our road. (If you're lurking, and know the deputy I speak of...feel free to pass this tidbit of info along! it's the deputy who nails all the 4 wheeler riders & lives on the brow)

Tackle it Tuesday

.....I would truly like to begin this post with a resounding whine. A big, fat, moany kind of whine!......why, do you ask? Let me tell you why! Because my tackle it this week involves the fact that my sweet adorable precious baby is just a few weeks from officially becoming a toddler......wait, here it comes.....wwwhhhhiiiiiiiiinnnnnnnnnnne. I just can't even believe how time flies!! Anyway, here goes for my Tackle this Tuesday:
  1. Get all clothes 9 months and under out of closet, put into bins and upstairs in storage with 6 month and under stuff.
  2. Get infant toys into box and upstairs in storage along with clothes. Birthday is in a couple of weeks and there will be new toys to take up space!

That does it for my "tackle it's" this week! Good luck with your own projects, ladies! To participate in Tackle it Tuesday, head on over to 5 Minutes for Mom!
