It was Tuesday...

...I was getting ready for work. Brushing my teeth to be exact. Listening to the television from the bathroom and as I heard this:

"We understand that there has been a plane crash at the southern tip of Manhattan," Bryant Gumbel says. While he knows it has penetrated One WTC, he is uncharacteristically mystified. "We don't know if it's a commercial aircraft. We don't know if it's a private aircraft," he says. About eleven minutes later, an eyewitness describing the fearsome scene by phone gasps, "Oh, there's another one! Another plane just hit!...That definitely looks like it was on purpose." Gumbel, who must have looked away from his TV monitors, could not believe his ears. "Why do you say that was definitely on purpose?" he asks the caller. After technicians rewind the tape, Gumbel's skepticism evaporates. "There we see the explosion," he says."

...as I was hearing those very words, I was hurrying to the TV to watch. I can still hear that woman's words. The woman on the phone with Bryant. I sat on my coffee table watching in disbelief. Then, driving to work listening to the radio as the 3rd plane hit the Pentagon. Then another in Pennsylvania. Talking to my husband on my cell as I drove I remember being afraid. What is going on?? Where would they hit next? Is it over? Now what?

I remember that morning so vividly right down to the clothes I was wearing. VZW was at our old location. We moved our TV that we watched training videos on from the back to the front and borrowed a coat hanger from the dry cleaner across the street and covered it with tin foil to see if we could pick up the local news channels. There were barely any customers that day. The few that came in sat with us and watched as we watched the scene replayed over and over on the news the entire day......

....now it's Thursday, it's been 7 years. I still can not begin to imagine how scared the people in those buildings and on those planes must have been that day. I know that my God was the same God that day, in those buildings and in those planes that He is today....that He's always been. I know that He was a comforter to those who were there who knew Him. I can't imagine the fear of those who didn't.

Tell your loved ones,...tell everyone about Jesus. Tell them that He died for them. Tell them about Salvation. Tell them that in my Jesus lies their only hope. TELL THEM!

Because we don't know what today brings, or tomorrow. But I know that my God will be the same then......and forever.

Do you remember where you were that day?

p.s...I'm also over here today, but I just couldn't let today pass without acknowledgement. There's a link in my post there for MrDealfinder, if you haven't ever checked it out, you should! You won't be sorry!

I was sitting in my yearbook class. I woke up that morning not feeling well, not really sick but like something wasn't right. I got to feeling better and went to school. Just before my class ended, I was feeling funny again and was about to go check out of school when our librarian came in and told us what was happening. We were all in shock and disbelief. We watched from the bandroom tv and I called my granny to see if she was watching. She told me that no one could get in touch with my mom. She was staying in Delaware at the time and was spending time in Pennsylvania. We had no idea where she was. I cried until I just couldn't breathe anymore. Late that evening, she finally called Pawpaw. I hope and pray that we never have to go through anything like that again. I firmly believe that God has his hand on this country.

Deidra, beautiful post. I was driving to work listening to Mark Prater give the weather forecast on the Rick & Bubba show when he stopped mid-sentence and said "Hey, a plane just crashed into the WTC." I parked my car and went into the nursing home where I worked and saw on the activity room big-screen the second plane hit. We were all so numb. Life will never be the same, but the American spirit is alive and well!

This is a fabulous post and brought tears to my eyes just remembering. I was here at work and a friend came upstairs stating, LOUDLY, that planes had just hit the twin towers...her husband had called to tell her, so we went into my boss' office and turned on his TV and watched in disbelief. Periodically through the day, we'd go to the kitchen to check the little TV in there...such shock...what had happened...and WHY??

Afterwards, for days and weeks, what I remember is that everyone was so stunned. No one wanted to go anywhere or do anything except follow the coverage and gain answers. It was a sad and humbling time, no doubt...and not quickly forgotten.

We were fortunate enough to have Lisa Beamer, Todd Beamer's wife, come speak at our church a few months after all that happened. She gave a very touching testimony and account of what happened and their life since then. I thought about them this morning and it hit me like a ton of bricks how much their kids have grown in the time since. Such a sad thing to know that Todd, and so many other parents, were taken that day and never had the chance to see their children grow up...all in a flash of time. Those family still need and deserve our prayers.

Thanks for this great post, Deedra. Well stated, and much needed.

I was at work at my desk. I couldn't keep away from the tv and the internet that day, or in the weeks that followed.

Although we are thousands of miles away, I wondered where it would stop, when it would stop. I wondered if our world would ever be the same, or would we go to war immediately. I couldn't imagine that we would be able to get back to life being this normal again.

I still hurt for those that were directly affected that day. I think about them often.

What you said is so important, Deedra, and so needed.

I had just come home from some temp work, a friend called me on the phone and was saying, "Oh my gosh, turn on your TV!! The twin towers have been hit by planes." Right after I turned it on the first tower fell, I was in absolute shock over the situation. I just sat in front of the tv, staring and staring and staring. I will never forget.

We had a Doctors's visit to Birmingham for Alex. We watched for a while, and then decided to go on. We had called the hospital first and they were seeing patients. When we got to B'ham, it was like a ghost town. Everything closed down at 5:00, and there was hardly anything open to get something to eat. They said all the motels were full because of all the flights being cancelled.

Such horror and uncertainty.
