800-462-0800

...put that number up somewhere. The pediatrician recommended that I put it up on the fridge......about a year and a half ago. Did I?

No.

What is that number, you ask?

The one for Poison Control.

I came out of the bathroom a few days ago to find Carter holding a bottle of teething tablets. Not only was he holding them, there was a white trail of them coming out of the side of his mouth.

I grabbed the bottle and asked him how many he ate. "A bunch", he said.

Great.

I proceeded to try to count to see how many were missing, because I've had to call PC before (the time I found him happily munching on Tums while watching Dora on the couch), and I knew they would ask.

37 were missing.

Then Carter says, "I give Lilah medicine, Mom."

Oh dear Lord, I almost passed out right then and there.

"How many did you give her, Carter?"

"A bunch!" , he said, smiling. (real proud, like he was helping!)

The PC lady put me on hold. During the hold time I was:

1. Sure she was calling DHR and they would be arriving at any moment.

2. Listening to various safety tips(as if I needed to feel worse!) on the hold line.

The nice lady came back to tell me that a toddler of Carter's weight (28lbs) would need to eat 250 teething tablets to do any harm, and Lilah would need to be seen by her pediatrician ASAP for observation.

After a visit to Dr Jeanie, Lilah was determined to be just fine!

"Teething tablets are a fantastic "homeopathic remedy" for teething, just keep them out of reach of the little ones" she told me.

Duh!

They were out of reach! Unfortunately I forgot that Rambo can scale the fridge in a matter of seconds giving him access to the top cabinets.

Today I am going to purchase a heavy duty fire safe (one of the BIG ones) to store our medications, firearms, and cigarette lighters (for candles, we don't smoke) in.

Maybe that will work.

Maybe.

p.s...I tried to find the post about the Tums to link to ('cause I'm sure I blogged about it) but I couldn't find it, so FYI...a toddler can eat 17 Tums before you should worry.

disclaimer: As I have said before, we DO watch him...mostly!

Okay, I have to go now, he has found my scrap booking stash by way of standing in Lilah's pack'n'play holding his fishing pole and "fishing" the container off a bookcase shelf, and is currently surrounded by a proverbial scissor buffet!
(not kidding) I guess my scrap booking supplies will be stored in the fire safe from this day forward.

For Christmas, please...PLEASE (aunts, uncles, & grandparents) buy him books. Short (as in not tall) ones.

I'm totally begging.

LOL I can just see him with the fishing pole. I have been wondering about the teething tablets since my nephew comes by quite often...wait til Carter turns 4. It only gets better!

Good luck at hiding the Christmas presents this year! I have to say my kids were relatively calm and not into quite so much, (THEN). Or maybe I was in some sort of coma and did not know what they were doing! LOL

Hi, I'm Audrey. I found you through the Blog Trip Carnival. You poor thing. It is so scary when we stop to use the bathroom and an entire bottle of pills that we need a step stool to reach is now gone :( Great banner by the way.

Oh Me! If I was a fly on the wall at your house. It would be just like being at my house. lol
Alayna was around 3 and she drank peroxide. She thought it was chocolate milk because it was in a brown bottle. We called PC,very embarassed. They said she would probably throw up and it would be good if she did and she did. She was fine. LOL

Holy Cow, I would have FREAKED! Glad all is well- we have a couple monkeys in our family too. Yesterday Samuel pulled over the kitchen chair and was standing on the kitchen counter to reach the children's vitamins on the TOP of the fridge all while I was greeting my daycare mom, nice huh?? :)

Oh my goodness, what a little pill he is. (Really in the literal sense too! :)

My sister I think has that number tatooed on her brain as she's had to call it quite a few times. I haven't been there yet, and oh, am I thankful for that!

I'm glad everyone is ok and a lesson learned! :)

No one can tell a story like you....NO ONE! I'm glad all turned out okay.

Here's my big question...how in the world do you keep up with this, Facebook and life??? My hat is off to you! :-)

My daughter, now 18, drank a whole bottle of antibiotic when she was 3. She came to me with the bottle in hand and said, "More Juice, please!"
She is also the pone who put Super glue in her ear.

Some kids just get into more things! But as I said, she is 18, and survived!

Ok.............so now I have decided to put that number in my cell phone and on the refrigerator! I don't know how many times I give it out at the drug store but have failed to even think about my own kid swallowing something he shouldn't!

I found your blog through my aunt's blog and read it occasionaly...this had me laughing and not feeling so bad..there are other mothers out there like me! We have called twice..(my daughter is 3)..once when she decided to eat some hydrocortizone cream..and again after eating some of those beads in the little packets that say DO NOT EAT!! THROW AWAY IMMEDIATELY..they come in purses and shoe boxes..yeah..so they reason they say that is b/c of chokind hazards..not b/c they are poison..and the cream was fine too..but I got a little scared when they took my # and info thinking they might come investigate this lady who keeps calling..AND there have been occasional times I just refused to call..I did my own research and watched her closely! LOL

But not too many books because he'll stack them and climb onto something :) I can tell my second one is going to be like Carter. She is into everything and doesn't have any fear (when it comes to exploring).

Thanks for submitting your post! Have I mentioned I live in Alabama too!?!? (Just for a year).
