The Burning Bed......

So, yesterday was the most beautiful day here and we spent it outside. The whole entire daylight part of the day. I won't go into detail about how badly my back hurt, or how massive my swollen feet and ankles were, but I will tell you, It was all and all a wonderful day!

One thing though, we did get a bit of alarming news about my husband's grandpa. You remember Grandpa, right? Well, bless his heart, he has outdone himself again. My husband and I are pretty concerned about his well being after hearing this story.

Apparently, he dropped a button or something under his bed and rather than get a flashlight to look for it, he rolled up a newspaper, set it on fire and commenced to looking under his bed for the button. I AM NOT KIDDING!! Well, you know what happened, right? He totally set the mattress on fire!

Anyway, they got the fire put out and he is okay, but I ask that you all please remember Grandpa and his children in your prayers. He is 86, and I don't know how much longer he's going to be able to live in his own home (he doesn't live alone, his son lives there too.....and that's all I have to say about that!) There may be some decisions that have to be made soon and I can tell you one thing for sure........THAT will not go well!!

I thought about going by to visit him tomorrow but my MIL tells me she is afraid he might shoot at us if he doesn't know we are coming, so she wants us to wait and go when she's going and he knows she is coming.

Alrighty then.

Like I said....remember them in your prayers.

Wow,
You may want to stay home! I'm sorry to hear about Grandpa! My Opa has Alzheimers, and although he hasn't done anything crazy like that, still he is getting so forgetful that it is difficult for my Oma. I am so thankful they decided to move into a retirement village in April...WooHoo! :) It makes me feel so much better that they will be okay, with them living a distance away!

I'm sorry, but, I'm laughing! That sounded just like the stereotypical Southern family who has a strange member...who may shoot at them....but they love and care about him just the same! Because here in the South we are proud of our families...regardless!

God bless you all as you care for him!

Oh bless his heart! I know it is tough trying to make decisions for the elderly. My grandmother is in the nursing home and she wants to come home so bad. It is very hard seeing her there but I know that she is very well taken care of so that makes it a bit easier. He sounds like a hoot! Hope you are feeling well today. STAY OFF YOUR FEET! If you need help with Carter please call me! Take care!

It was a lovely weekend....glad you enjoyed!! I'm ready for SPRING:)
The burning bed cracked me up...although very scary too! I know about how hard it is to see them in a nursing home. I'll remember the family in my prayers.

Take care!

WOW...what a story! I do remember that story about Grandpa and I remember giggling...seems like there was another one too besides the one you linked to, wasn't there? Maybe not, but I was thinkin' so. I can't imagine lighting newspaper to find something under your bed...a little comical, but obviously very serious. Lots of tough decisions to come it sounds like...let us know how it goes.

Hey Deedra, I was just thinking of you today and wondering how you were making it, I know it's getting close to time for new baby! I'm not so sure I shouldn't go with Grandpa to a home, I almost set my kitchen on fire today cooking french fries...Lord help us both! Your in my prayers!

AAHH! I feel so bad for the elderly when they have to come to the point that they need help! Their independence is so important for them, but their safety is important to us! Praying he'll make the transition better then expected!

You totally need a Grandpa book..:))

Seriously though, caregiving decisions are so incredibly hard to make. Pray whatever needs to happen will go smoothly.
