Farewell G.W.B.....

.....President Bush made one of the best public addresses of his presidency this past week. At least that's my opinion. I would most likely have watched his last presidential speech anyway, but after seeing some highlights of Bush fielding a few questions from reporters, I was intrigued by what I saw in his demeanor and made a point of watching.

I'm the first to admit I have cringed along with the rest of America during many of his public addresses. Bless his heart, public speaking is certainly not one of his strong points. I don't make a habit of watching late night TV, (unless it's George Lopez on Nick @ Nite), but one night when I was pregnant with Carter I couldn't sleep and stumbled across David Lettermans "Great Moment's in Presidental Speeches"....and well, I was hooked on that particular segment from that moment on. (I have since found that Tim C. is also an addict and we have giggled many Sunday mornings over the segments that week).

Now, with all that said, one of my favorite things about George W. is his ability to laugh at himself. In many of the speeches when he'd get all stumbled up over himself, there was that twinkle in his eye, and I have always wondered if he and Laura didn't have a bit of a giggle about it between themselves later. I would probably have felt horrible for laughing quite as hysterically as I have had he not shown that he had a great sense of humor and wasn't afraid to laugh at himself.

In all seriousness, I am so very grateful to President Bush for his service to our country. I am saddened by the "cloud" that seems to hang over his presidency. He has lead this great nation at a time when I don't believe any man (or woman) could have possibly made all the correct decisions when facing what he has faced. I believe that Mr Bush has great faith, and that his faith has sustained him through his term in office and will continue to do so afterward. I can't help but notice how tired he looks lately and wonder if he'll be as happy to be back on his ranch as I imagine I would be in his shoes.

I will leave you with the final "Great Moments In Presidential Speeches". It's actually a montage of previous segments, which leads me back to my opening statement: "President Bush made one of the best public addresses of his presidency last week."

......after all the hype surrounding the "final" speech, he nailed it.

As far as the "Great Moments" run on Latenight,.......

.....Guess George W. got the last laugh after all, Dave.

I have laughed my head off at this. Thanks, I needed a good laugh. I too am like Pres. Bush in that I am no public speaker. My brain and my tongue go opposite directions. I will miss him for sure!

LOL God love him. I think he and his wife are great, even if his speech giving skills are lacking.

Just don't tell Grady I said that they are great.

Deedra,
I could not stop laughing, Thanks So Much for Sharing this..
In All serious though, I echo your sentiments and also believe that President Bush was a good president who did well under the serious pressure of many tragic situations...

Thank you for being one of the few out there that actually give this man the respect he deserves as a President of this country. I am so tired of the trash talk about Bush. In the next 4 years, I guarantee we will be hearing some of the Obama praisers complaining about him just the same. No one is perfect all the time, and no one can make everyone happy.
